Turn a finding into a decision
Context — domain, country, language and refresh date.
Evidence — keywords, ranking pages and estimates.
Review — inspect the relevant live page.
Action — improve a useful page or prepare a distinct brief.
Choose search competitors that matter to the client.
SEO competitor analysis tools reveal websites and pages that appear for relevant searches. Search competitors may differ from the businesses your client meets offline. Start with the client’s products, services and audience, then research domains competing for the same needs in the selected market.
Business relevance
A site with overlapping keywords may be a retailer, publisher or large platform. Check whether its pages answer the same question and serve a similar audience before treating it as a useful benchmark.
Search context
Choose the country and language for the domain lookup. Results from one market do not describe every country. Keep that context consistent when comparing domains.
Research a domain and return to its saved report.
Domain Research accepts a domain and market without requiring a new campaign. An analysis creates a saved lookup that you can reopen. The report includes ranking distribution, available trends, keywords, top pages, competitive positioning and main organic competitors.
Keyword and page evidence
Review the reported search terms, positions and ranking URLs. Top pages groups available evidence around URLs, helping you identify which pages deserve a closer look. Open the relevant live page to understand its purpose.
Campaign organisation
Select useful saved lookups and add them as competitors to a campaign. The campaign’s Competitor Research area keeps those saved domains with the client work. Adding a domain is an organisational step, not a fresh data refresh.
Read estimates, overlap and dates carefully.
The report’s estimated traffic is a modelled search estimate, not access to a competitor’s private analytics. Estimated cost is a search-value estimate, not the competitor’s actual advertising spend. Missing values do not mean zero.
Overlap needs interpretation
Shared keywords help identify search overlap. A large platform can overlap with many topics while being a poor business comparison. Check the individual pages and terms before choosing a content priority.
Freshness and coverage
Use the saved report’s last-refreshed date, market and available rows to frame the findings. Coverage varies by domain and country. A saved lookup remains a snapshot until it is refreshed.
Advertiser competition is separate from organic ranking difficulty. Search volume, positions and estimated traffic are useful context; none of them proves that a new page will be easy to rank.
A worked comparison: answer the shopper’s missing question.
Fictional editorial example for Example Home Store. The domains and observations below are invented to show the decision process. No real owner or client rankings, traffic estimates or backlink counts are shown.
Page A: product category
Imagine a competitor category page that lists narrow bedside cabinets and links to individual products. It addresses shopping intent. If your store has suitable products, review whether your own category clearly explains dimensions and the selection.
Page B: measuring guide
Imagine a separate guide explaining how to measure the space beside a bed. It addresses a practical question. A useful supporting article could include an original measuring checklist and link to suitable products where relevant.
The decision is not to copy either page. Choose the page type that matches the reader’s need, add verified product knowledge and give each topic one clear owner. Record the source URL, observation date and proposed action when conducting a real review.
Keep keyword research, backlink review and content work distinct.
Use domain keyword and page evidence to plan a relevant next step. Campaign backlink tools provide a separate view of the client site’s link evidence where enabled; this page does not promise an automatic competitor backlink-gap comparison.
Turn a supported finding into an article brief or a product-content review. Add selected priority terms to rank tracking when you want comparable checks. Explain evidence and uncertainty in client reports.
Review costs before refreshing research.
Opening an existing saved lookup is separate from running or refreshing an analysis. New analyses and refreshes use the credit cost shown in the app. Subscribers can choose an optional weekly refresh; it stays off until enabled and pauses if the next full run cannot fit the credit balance.

Competitor research questions, answered.
What can I see in a competitor domain report?
Available organic keywords, ranking pages, distribution, top pages and competitor comparisons for the chosen market. Coverage and freshness depend on the saved lookup.
Do I need to create a campaign first?
Domain Research can analyse a domain without a campaign. You can later save useful researched domains as competitors for a client campaign.
Is estimated traffic the competitor’s actual traffic?
No. It is an estimate from available search data. The tool does not give you access to the competitor’s analytics, revenue or actual advertising spend.
Does it automatically find every content gap?
Use the keyword and page evidence to investigate opportunities. This page does not promise an automatic content-gap engine or a complete list of missing topics.
Can I reopen an existing report without refreshing?
Yes. Recent lookups let you open saved reports. A separate refresh uses credits and updates the data when it completes.
Will copying a ranking competitor improve my position?
A competitor page is research material. Build useful, original content for your audience, verify its facts and measure later results; copying is not a ranking strategy.
